For our music video we decided to break the convention of locations that you would expect to see in a Big Beat; we chose to base a large majority of our video in a forest. Traditionally, a lot of Big Beat events take place on the beach. Our clothing uses the forms and conventions of our genre, however I feel that we have developed this by the use of our 3D glasses in the close ups of us lip syncing. The idea of incorporating lava lamps into our music video has developed on the existing media products of our genre.
We followed conventions of a standard music video; lip syncing, cut on beat, location change etc; because they are effective when used in a music video, we have learned this by analysing popular music videos and looking at their conventions. These videos are successful for a reason and they engage the audience in the way a music video should. The conventions vary between genres, but are still very similar with regards to the actual video conventions.
Lip syncing is one of the most important conventions when it came to making our video, it is an extremely good way to make your video look professional; when watching music videos without lip syncing; they can look unprofessional and that not a lot of time has been put into them, when you see a performer lip sync it assures you that it is them singing is and it is also more interesting to watch. We lip sync through most of the parts of the video where vocals are involved, however, for some shots it would be unnoticeable since we are too far from the camera to notice.
Cutting to the beat is where you cut your video to a new shot, in time with the beat of the music. We used this method often in our video as we believe it makes the video look a lot better, it gives it more of a natural flow and leaves room for some interesting editing effects. It shows that the video has been edited to match our genre and that it is not just a video which has no relation to the song. We decided to make eye contact with the viewer; however in some shots we chose to keep the mystery of our identities by covering our eyes with the glasses.
Do you have any evidence for your statement regarding Dance ( big beat) videos location? Who ( ie What band) has similar conventions in costume to your group? How has using lava lamps developed your genre? Overall this post shows insufficient detail. You must have visual references and fully answer the question. This section is worth 20 marks. It would be a great shame if you didn't access these and get the best grade you could. JIN
