Analysis of Plan B - She Said

1) Plan B - She Said
2) Album - The Deformation of Strickland Band
Released - March 28, 2010
3) Summary - Som
eone is in court about a girl. He is saying that he is innocent and th
e girl is wrong.
4) The main set of
the video is in a courtroom. The man singing represents the dialogue that h
e is telling the courtroom. There are flashback type shots to illustrate what he is saying. The video is a narrative with him lip syncing to
the other characters rather than the audience.
5) 0:00 - Starts with him kissing a girl in an elevator and then following her. It cuts to him standing up in a box in court. Musi comes in
but no lyrics yet.

0:30 - Starts singing. In an interview with the police. The jury looks
serious but move with beat, eg clicking and tapping files.

1:00 - Him in court and with police. Flashbacks to what he is talking about.

1:30 - Same as 1 min. Cuts to court room with some dancing but serious faces.

2:00 - Music changes to rapping. Faster cuts.

2:30 - Continues 2 min. Music slows again, goes back to singing.

3:00 - Singing in court with police dancing either side.

3:30 - Song ends and video stops.

6) The video is a narrative of a man in court defending himself. Cutaways to flashbacks follow the story that he is giving.
7) There is a clear connection between the lyrics and the video. As he was singing to desribe events, the video often illustrated what he was saying.
8) I think this song is targetted at a younger audience, teenagers, through the rapping section. However, the bulk of the song may appeal to an older audience.
9) In the video you meet Ben Drew; the singer. It focusses on him and the story of his character in the music video.
10) The video mainly takes place inside; either in the court room or the police interview room. The flashbacks were in various places such as an elevator or at a club.
11) The video doesn't really put me in a certain mood. I don't think it is aiming to inspire people or anything. It's just a good song with a story to make money.
12) My attention was drawn to the video because of the older style music mixed in with the modern.
13) The video makes the singer seem misunderstood; that he is in trouble but it wasn't really his fault. This would make the audience take his side and make a connection with him.
14) I think the combination of music, lyrics and images work well in this video.

Analysis of Usher ft Will.I.AM - OMG

1) Usher ft Will.i.am - OMG
2) Released - March 22, 2010.
Album - Raymond v. Raymond
3) Director - Anthony Mandler
4) The lyrics sound like he likes looking at girls but one girl stands out and he is amazed at her. He sings about wanting to be with her and how stunned he is by her.
5) The video mainly shows the 2 singers dancing in abstract locations. The screen is divided in 2 a lot showing them dancing individually but often cuts to just Usher, or him with background dancers.
6) 0:00 - Starts showing an old TV changing channels. Usher appears and starts singing. Camera zooms into the TV and shows what it does. Introduced to both singers.

0:30 - Screen splits in 2. Cuts to Usher's side - blue. Sings and dances in time. Changes to a white background.

1:00 - Quick cuts. more people dancing with Usher - girls.

1:30 - Puts sunglasses of. Shows close-up of reflection of girls dancing.

2:00 - New Background - metal wall. Shadows of Usher appear and start dancing. Jumps and spins unnaturally.

2:30 - Changes to other singer - red background. Fast Cuts. Occassional cuts to Usher or splitscreen

3:00 - Dark, light appears behind singer. jacket and hat fly off the floor into his hands. smokes cigar. Cuts to dancing with cigar in his mouth.

3:30 - Girls join in. Lights shine. More Cuts. Blue then red.

4:00 - Cuts to close up of lip syncing. Dances the same as 3:30

4:30 - End with him walking off. Camera zooms out of TV.

7) It is a performance video of dancing. The video is set in abstract locations.
8) There isn't an obvious link between the lyrics and video. The lyrics talk about a girl and ow amazing she is, while the video is showing off Usher and his dancing.
9) I think the target audience is for teenagers of both genders. Girls may fancy Usher and enjoy seeing him, while boys can admire his dancing.
10) The video focusses on Usher but features Will.i.am in it. Usher is always the star of the dancing.
11) the video takes place in abstract locations in front of a green screen. \the main colours are blue, red and black.
12) The video has a cheery sense and the dancing makes you smile.
13) The dancing and colours attract my attention to this video.
14) The artist is trying to present himself as a talented man. When he smokes the cigar it colours that he has a darker side.
15) I thinks the video is successful at entertaining audience while they listen to the song.
